Creature Comforts
Bald Babydoll folded face-down
in the dregs of the boy’s last bath,
I cannot leave you there to sputter in bubbles.
To suck your way to safety.
I twist your head back into place,
Arrange your arms and legs into more sympathetic shapes, and search your eyes;
Brined with soap, earnest,
Unwise.
Contorted creature of comfort,
I return you to your place in the shampoo line.
