Lords of The Flies

Psst. It’s none of your buzzness, but here’s the winners of the Poet Lea’s haiku contest …. the prompt was “fly.”

The Humble Fly

A painted lady of the saloon

Adorning a brooch of the humble fly

In tinted shades of azurian nights

Privy to all the shadows of life.

A painted lady of the saloon

Adorning a brooch of the humble fly

Reflecting golden specks of hope

Of auburn dreams in scarlet terrors.

A painted lady of the saloon

Adorning a brooch of the humble fly

An heirloom for her future descendant

A reminder of all she has to long for.

Fly Life

Sticking to the wallpaper

washing its front legs

the fly looks like

it’s saying a prayer

but really it’s thinking

about a dead fish

it was recently standing on.

I’ll cease eating death

And I’ll sport gossamer wings

Please stop swatting me
