Nightmare of Modern Life

Once again while charting

heavenly spheres all night

did my eyes softly close

just as Apollo rose

upon his chariot

of OxyContin bliss

Like Alice down the rabbit hole

my subconscious mind dared to roam

in the grand theater of our times

playing our enduring trouble

gelatinous coelenterates

float innocently here and there

on the stage all the while hiding

poisonous barbs that lie beneath

The mask of humane care

is a puppet of corporate greed
